New York magazine’s October 2005 issue sent shockwaves through the literary world when it unmasked “it boy” wunderkind JT LeRoy, whose tough prose about his sordid childhood had captivated icons and luminaries internationally. It turned out LeRoy didn’t actually exist. He was dreamed up by 40-year-old San Francisco punk rocker and phone sex operator, Laura Albert.
Author: The JT LeRoy Story takes us down the infinitely fascinating rabbit hole of how Laura Albert—like a Cyrano de Bergerac on steroids—breathed not only words, but life, into her avatar for a decade. Albert’s epic and entertaining account plunges us into a glittery world of rock shows, fashion events, and the Cannes red carpet where LeRoy becomes a mysterious sensation. As she recounts this astonishing odyssey, Albert also reveals the intricate web spun by irrepressible creative forces within her. Her extended and layered JT LeRoy performance still infuriates many; but for Albert, channeling her brilliant fiction through another identity was the only possible path to self-expression. more: http://www.sundance.org/projects/author-the-jt-leroy-story Need a ride : FASTAXI provides Park City Taxi and Park City Airport Transportatioin 435-783-8294 Events in Park City | Saturday, January 16, 2015 | Park City Film Series | Jim Santy Auditorium1/16/2016 Park City Film Series - Room
Both highly suspenseful and deeply emotional, ROOM is a unique and touching exploration of the boundless love between a mother and her child. Five year-old Jack and his mother, a victim of abduction as a young woman, live in a hidden small room and plot their escape from the enclosed surroundings that Jack has known his entire life. It would be unfair to give away more of this suspenseful and moving plot. This thrilling and intense movie has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Picture of the Year. - See more at: https://www.visitparkcity.com/includes/events/Park-City-Film-Series---Room/18921/#sthash.U6Iy2lyh.dpuf FASTAXI provides Park City Taxi Service and Park City Airport Service 435-783-8294 Buzz — that ever-elusive quality that turns a movie into something that draws audiences, attention and big distribution deals — comes in two forms: prefabricated and authentic. The prefabricated stuff is the fool's gold manufactured by publicists, journalists (ahem) and festival watchers, based on the pedigrees of the filmmakers and a lot of guesswork. The authentic stuff grows naturally in Park City, nourished by conversations on the shuttle buses and theater queues by people who have actually seen the movies. So the following list of buzzworthy titles from the 2016 Sundance Film Festival can be taken with a grain of salt, because it's all a crapshoot until the screenings start up on Thursday night. In just about a week, the industry and film press around the country will flock to the mountainous Park City, UT to either introduce their films or to discover new names and movies before everyone else.
Will this year’s line up launch the next Beasts of the Southern Wild, Boyhood or The Diary of a Teenage Girl? How about the next Brooklyn or Tangerine? It’s tough to tell with Sundance, which is truly a festival where the buzz builds on the ground; usually with titles no one saw coming early on. But it is still possible to look at its rich line up any year –this year, with works from Anne Fontaine, Kelly Reichardt, Asif Kapadia, Kenneth Lonergan and several other filmmakers/storytellers we can’t wait to get acquainted with- and get reasonably excited. So we vetted this year’s line up carefully and extracted 30 titles we’re looking forward to seeing the most across different sections of the festival. Of course, personal priorities and tastes play a big role while making lists of this sort; but we tried to be inclusive of several sections across the 2016 slate as much as possible. Without further ado, here are our 30 most anticipated titles of Sundance 2016! Saturday, January 9, 2016, 8:00 PM Downstairs 625 Main Street, Park City, UT DJ Bizzy’s passion for music and the turntables originated in Philadelphia, starting his journey towards creating a signature sound heard all over the globe for over the last decade. DJ Bizzy has been around music all of his life. Born as Mark Smith of Greencastle PA. He is the son of legendary musician Dwight Smith, best known as a leading swing drummer from the 1950's and 60's band "The Archers", Bizzy was immediately influenced by the beats and music surrounding his childhood. Living a life immersed in music, Bizzy started MC’ing and performing as a hype man at the age of 15 for clubs in Pennsylvania and Maryland. His love of DJ’ing took shape while watching such iconic artists as QuickSilva, Cee-Lo, D.J. Milk and Shmoove at parties in D.C. and Baltimore and such DJ’s as Jazzy Jeff, Jay-ski, Touch Tone, Adam Bomb, Sat-One and Ghost in Philadelphia. From this exposure, Bizzy decided it was his calling to take the lessons of music and drumming learned from his dad and mix it with what he loved most – hip-hop. In Philadelphia Bizzy became part of the Gathering, the city’s longest running hip-hop event. The monthly event was held at the Rotunda, a well-known art venue on Penn's campus. Hosted by I-BE 4 Eva, M-Ski, Tu-Phace and Sara Green, The Gathering was a free, all-age multi-media experience that focused on all aspects of hip-hop culture, from dancing to spinning. During his run in Philly, Bizzy also hosted and DJed on a local pirate radio station on the west side called 92.9 Street Radio, which had a strong west Philadelphia following. Soon after, he also started interning at Q 102 and Wired 96.5. Upon graduating from college, Clear Channel offered Bizzy a mixing and hosting position with a station in Detroit, Channel 955. Being a huge fan of Detroit art and music scene, he jumped at the opportunity to learn from some of the world’s greatest musicians and producers in the field. Soon, Bizzy was an on-air mixer with his own mix show and a live broadcast every Saturday night from the State Theater, the largest nightclub in Detroit and one of the most lively parties Biz had ever encountered, rocking 2,500 people with an amazing sound crew and system. He got to perform with special guests along the lines of Eminem, Proof, and Obi-Trice. Within two years of creating a profile as the top mixer and co-host on the #1 ranked night show in Detroit’s highest rated Top 40 station, Bizzy decided to start a new career promoting some of the artists he’d met on his travels. To date, the artists he has championed that have since garnered recording deals are Pittsburgh Slim, Young De, Tangled Thoughts, and Brilliance, with still others in the pipeline. “I want to make all types of music,” Bizzy said. “I want to create music that educates, music that makes people move their feet, music that makes people remember, music that makes people forget and above all music that makes people have FUN.” After being a staple in the Detroit and Philly hip-hop scenes, Bizzy now makes Los Angeles Ca his home. Continuing to nurture his passion for spinning, he is still unleashing a signature sound for some of the city’s hottest celebrity events at all types of clubs and venues. Today, Bizzy’s client list includes several major Hollywood studios such as Warner Bros., Sony, Paramount, Open Road, Disney as well as such popular culture leaders as the National Academy of Recording and Arts, Clear Channel, Kenneth Cole, Details Magazine, Def Jam Records, Sprint, Coke, Redbull, Patron, and Nike. In addition to performing for an extensive celebrity guest list, his presence has also rocked such legendary clubs as Greystone, Bootsy Bellows, Avalon, Emerson, Sayers Club, Greenhouse, LAX, Hyde, Catch, Finale, MGM, The Ivy and many more. Bizzy has become the go to DJ for Hollywood's elite! “Music is the creative outlet I have used to express my art to the world,” Bizzy concluded. “DJ’ng is the way that I have decided to reach out to my generation as well as the ones before and after and joining us all together by cuts, scratches, and mixes, using bass lines, and beats from every genre and era.” Currently Bizzy has been touring with Juicy J (Taylor Gang/3-6 Mafia) since May 2014. The combination of J's down south lyrical artillery and bass heavy speaker rattling beats mixing in with Bizzy's west coast scratching and east coast cuts on the turntables has made a formidable combination and a sound to be remembered. Bizzy also performed at The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Official Premiere Party, opening and closing for Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys and Hans Zimmer. Bizzy's list of movie premieres and red carpets that he has performed at is exstensive. Recently Biz has opened for Prince, Common, Estelle, and Stevie Wonder at The Sayers Club in Hollywood Ca where he is a resident DJ playing with the likes of musicians Keith Harris, The Regiment Horns, and Tony Royster. If you haven’t heard, Bizzy is the sound of today…and beyond. FASTAXI provides Park City Taxi and Park City Airport Transportation 435-783-8294 |
