If you have ever visited our beautiful little town you have noticed a plethora of taxi's..  In fact on busy nights, Main Street is bumper to bumper taxi's.  However, with all those taxi's there are two big problems.

1.  Finding a taxi, when you need it.
   There are over 150 taxi companies in Park City.  You would think, finding a taxi would be easy.  Not so.  The problem is, when it is slow, taxi drivers don't want to work.  Most work as independent contractors and if there is no money, they won't drive.  So, finding a taxi can be a daunting task.

2.  Being overcharged by the interlopers.
    Most local companies charge very close to the same rate within about $5 of each other.  Our rates were determined long before any of us started by the original taxi companies in Park City.  Most of us when we started just adopted the status quo.  So, using a local taxi, you are pretty safe.
    However, there are taxi companies that are app driven that come in when it is busy (like during Sundance) and gouge the consumer.  It is not uncommon for them to charge outrageous amounts for a ride.  An example is $150 from Main Street to the St. Regis.  The local rate is $21.  Or $139 from Stillwater to Main Street.  The local rate is $31.

Word of Caution:  Be careful when you order a taxi in Park City and make sure they quote you a rate before hand.  Every once in awhile you might be able to save money with the app driven companies (when it is slow...if they are even working), but when it is busy, you may learn the valuable lesson on why it is a good idea to 'support the local companies.'

One other reason to 'go local.'  The local drivers will be there for you.  When you are drunk they will make sure you get home safe.  When you are lost or need help, they will help you (they know the area).  And finally, to the app driven companies you are only a credit card and a ride.  To the local drivers, you are our friends, neighbors and tourist.  We love you!
